There is no doubt that OS X Snow Leopard remains one of the best releases of the platform which continues to have a significant user base. It runs great on older Macs as it has a smaller footprint and includes Rosetta for those users wanting to run PowerPC applications.

However there are now a multitude of support issues. Although Apple ceased support for OS X Snow Leopard some time back many major Third Party software vendors are pulling the plug.

The most recent Firefox version compatible with Snow Leopard is 47.0.1 which is not an immediate issue but as time advances sites will begin to render incorrectly. Limited HTML5 support means Flash player essential. Adobe no longer 'officially' support Snow Leopard but the OS X Mavericks Flash player 23 works. How long this remains to be seen as its predecessor OS X Leopard is stuck on Flash player 10.3 which is horrendously out of date.

Steam no longer works on Snow Leopard. (I am a sucker for COD Modern Warfare 2 and prefer to run it via the Steam client but that is no longer possible)

So how much longer will Snow Leopard be a viable OS X release to work with ? As it I have multiple release OS X partitions on my Late 2009 iMac (Snow Leopard, Yosemite and Sierra) all due to compatibility issues. For example the Wineskin version of COD Modern Warfare 3 will not work on Snow Leopard but works on Yosemite but no later. Likewise COD Modern Warfare 4 is more stable on Sierra along with better Parallels Desktop support for running virtual environments.

Its frustrating to say the least.
