James 1-2 Meter and Exegesis

An archive of brainout's vimeo video descriptions and playlists (to go along with the dumped videos in the event vimeo pulls them down with all of the playlists and text).

Uploads will resume in 2016. On hold for now, to finish other NT Bible books' meter. Eventually, the James 2 Youtube playlist will be put here ( http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB2D36A5F17A7ABB4 ). Meanwhile, it turns out James uses a METERED dateline like all other Bible writers, to inform the reader of his THEME. The 'jim#' videos are all new, and on James' meter, plus on Luke's. For James ties his meter, to Luke. So we know Luke's Gospel was newly disseminated, when James wrote. This comparison is quite distinct from the German analysis (i.e., at http://www.stichometrie.de/geschichte.html ). That analysis, has nothing to do with the Bible's own meter style here shown. For the Bible's own style is demonstrable from the HEBREW, even with Greek words; for the style, goes back to Moses.

Also, I'll bundle the Youtube videos into longer vimeo versions, and upload them here, as well. This Channel Name is jamesexegesis .

Updated James videos plus the ones below, are (or will be) in vimeo: http://vimeo.com/channels/jamesexegesis. On 1/13/14, I learned that JAMES IS METERED; so there are more videos than included here. When you see the meter meaning, all your ideas about James' meaning, will change: for he's talking to his fellow believing JEWS, about spiritual maturity in light of upcoming Millennium, using Psalm 90's metered timeline, and he's updating that prophecy via the meter, as well as playing on Luke's Gospel, the Magnificat, Zecharias' speech, and Paul's meter in Ephesians. Real shocker.

The vimeo channel leaves out the first vid in this playlist, as the first vid here, is too basic.

Playlist Theme? 'Debunking "faith without works is dead!" crowd, who base their chirping on MISTRANSLATION. So these videos walk you through the Greek of James Chapters 1-2, to prove live before your eyes, how James says THE WORD does the work, never you. THE WORD matures you, and THEN it does works which no human can do.

James uses four rhetorical styles in Greek to communicate this spiritual maturation theme. Most dramatically -- and invisible in translation -- James cleverly uses or omits the Greek definite article to stridently drive home the point that Only The Word Works.

Greek pistis, translated "faith" means WHAT is believed, the WORD -- not, your act of believing. For the RESULT of your believing is that the WORD IN YOU, DOES ALL THE WORK.

So beginning in James 1:3, his deft economy of omission or insertion of the Greek article ("the"), traces the vast difference between human and Divine Word, Works.

Thus in 2:18 the straw man claiming his faith and his works are on par with GOD's Word and Works, is shot down, and the mistranslated "faith without works is dead" is shown to mean "Word believed without DIVINE works, is an idle employee". Kinda different from the common Christian chirping, huh. :)

James, Book of: how to read

OUTDATED video. Watch and comment instead, at: http://vimeo.com/channels/jamesexegesis . This video is replaced by an updated exegesis, word by word, of James Chapters 1-2. (Vid stays in Youtube because others have favorited it, but it is not in the vimeo list.)

Carnal, baby Christians routinely abuse the Book of James by claiming you must show evidence of works to be saved. James' main theme is THE WORD WORKS. In you. IT does the works, never you. But carnal Christians reverse that, because carnality is all about, works!

Watch my playlist of James Exegesis videos, starting with this one, to avoid being like them. For they don't use 1John1:9, so have no Spirit in them, even if saved. So YOU use 1John1:9, so you won't be like them.

For in the playlist, YOU YOURSELF will see in JAMES' OWN GREEK, what he's really saying. You will learn the Greek as you watch, it's not hard. This is now the first video of a playlist proving what's said in the first video, in the next 22: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=B2D36A5F17A7ABB4

Off-Youtube, the playlist is here: SatStrat2.htm#James2.

For the way James uses or omits the Greek (definite) article ('the') is key to grasping what God gave him to write. This video introduces you to his rhetorical style, which is commonly used pan-Bible.

Second, the word "faith" is misconstrued by carnal Christians. Greek word "pistis" means BIBLE BELIEVED, not your act of believing.

But Christian Jews outside Jerusalem, to whom James was writing, were not naming their sins to God, so they were not growing spiritually. So he rips them apart, slowly at first, and then with vigor. They weren't believing in what they learned from their teachers. They were carnal and hence legalistic, eyes-on-people. So they were divisive, even murderous. Just like Christians today.

So his book is on the importance of naming sins to God, in order for the IMPLANTED WORD to GROW in them. (1:21 proves they were saved already, +sower parable +vine and branches analogy which everyone knew but Gospel writers would later pen.)

James was the apostle appointed in lieu of Judas, per Acts 15 and following. Peter had his bad hair day in Acts 1, tried to tell God who to appoint by lots; God ignored Peter and picked James, the Lord's half-brother, as attested by Paul in 1Cor15:1-10. So you'll notice that, like (later on) Jude and Peter, James doesn't use a title for himself -- didn't have to. He was one of "The Twelve".

By contrast, God picked Paul for the Gentiles: post-Resurrection Appearance of Christ was what made you an "apostle", 1Cor15:1-10; but the legalistic Jerusalem church headed by Paul's pal James, had to stick their oars in, Acts 15. This led to a rift. It gnawed on Paul, who also wanted to be an apostle to the Jews (as Paul confesses many times, most painfully after his own bad hair day, in Acts 22). But, God didn't want that (ibid).

So James was the head honcho responsible for the Christian Jews, hence this early letter.

Video gets technical with the Greek, so you can see what "faith" means. There's a bad translation in 1:6, "nothing doubting"; Greek says NOT JUDGING. Greek verb diakrinw means to discriminate and judge against, and that's the verb mistranslated "doubting" in 1:6. Again, telling God what He should think. That's James' complaint in the letter, that they are JUDGING; so to mistranslate the verb means you don't get the flow of his sarcasm, and miss the points he makes in the letter.

Instead of learning and living on Word, naming sins to God as needed, people were JUDGING THEMSELVES what was 'Christian' -- sound familiar? So James' letter is a prototype of what Christianity is like in any generation: full of itself. Now you know why Chapter 2 lambasts them re their favoritism and works. So James counters that DOCTRINE WORKS the works, not man.

So to see all that, you need to know the meaning of 1) Greek word "pistis" and 2) the uses of the Greek (nee: definite) article "the": both are key to understanding James' discourse.

So this video covers just the essential Greek-geek stuff to see the OVERVIEW of what James means -- THE WORD WORKS THE WORKS IN YOU. At video's end is a short pronounciation and display of each Greek letter in the alphabet, so you can read them in the video. Use 1Jn1:9 as you do this, and you'll learn FAST.

1/22 James 2 says WORD WORKS, never you!

Playlist is to dispel a number of false doctrines in Christendom, all of which IGNORE THE INSPIRED GREEK of James 1-2. Link: • 1/22 James 2 says WORD WORKS, never you! . Off-Youtube: SatStrat2.htm#James2

You've often heard, oh, you must do works to be saved, 'faith is not enough', 'easy-believism' is wrong; or worse, you must 'make Christ Lord' to be saved; or, you're not saved unless you 'evidence' salvation by means of works. So, this playlist proves James' original GREEK, disproves all those claims.

In the last 12 videos of the series, we'll see him use a four-fold rhetorical style, which I've color-coded (download the Word doc here: James1-2InGreekR.doc. That doc is used in the last 12 videos of this series. Download its free Greek fonts here: http://www.bibleworks.com/fonts.html)

  1. "Faith" means WORD BELIEVED, not your act of faith, and begins in James 1:3.
  2. "The" in Greek ("definite article"), he cleverly removes or inserts, to show the difference between GOD's works and your own. This is a common Bible rhetorical style. It begins in James 1:3 & continues thru end of Chap 2.
  3. Question of "True riches" (Lord's phrase in Gospels). James starts this witty parallel to the crown you're tested to receive, with James 1:3's Greek dokimion. It means to test a gem or metal for genuineness (folks counterfeited gems & coins, see). For WHAT word is in you? God's, or your own? Word is gold silver precious stones in 1Cor3, so Paul plays off James.
  4. Favor True Riches of Word over material poverty or wealth: theme of Chapter 2, James began in 1:9-10.

So now you know:

Paul, Peter, Jude, Book of Hebrews and finally John, all frequently allude to or quote, James' themes. Fruit is TEACHING, Matt7, whether good or bad. Fruit is Thinking, Galatians 5 being the Spirit-produced THINKING. For our souls were paid for by Christ's Thinking, "bedato yatsdiq" clause in Isaiah 53:11's Hebrew.

The Word implanted in Christ, made Him BECOME the Truth, by means of which His Soul PAID for us (Isa 53:11); so this Truth is shared out like booty among Church, James 2, Romans 12:1-3, Ephesians 3:15-19, Eph4:13 (the goal for Church maturation & hence Rapture), 2Pet3:18.

So Word Believed, Works. IT works, not you. IT produces, not you. IT is true profit, not worldly wealth or poverty. IT makes you mature, IT makes you 'approved' for king-sized maturation & hence from IT you INHERIT a kingdom (1:12) if you keep abiding in The Word. Learning it. Believing it. Then you are a 'doer' of The Word, James 1:22-23. Then what happened to Abraham, James 2:22, happens to you: for the Word works ON faith. Greek verb sunergew is intransitive. So Abraham cannot do anything. But the Word IN Him, makes the intransitive, fruitful, just as in Romans 8:28 (same verb).

2/22 James 2 says WORD WORKS, never you!

Rhetorical style A "faith" as Word in You, continued. Exegesis from James 1:5 through 1:21, still showing context of post-salvation MATURATION, in order to be crowned.

3/22 James 2 says WORD WORKS, never you!

Rhetorical Style A, cont. Exegesis from James 1:21, Greek verb 'sozw', meaning to rescue, aka 'save' -- this time, gradually rescuing your THINKING post-salvation, from the trash it is and remains. Continues through 1:27, to show only the Word GROWING in you which you BELIEVE, makes you 'unstained' between sins (see also James 4:8).

4/22 James 2 says WORD WORKS, never you!

Rhetorical style B) introduced: how removal or insertion of the definite article, distinguishes between what GOD does in you, versus what you do in you. So Exegesis goes back to James 1:3 through 1:23, to show how James inserts or removes "the", to distinguish between what GOD does, and what man does: so you know for sure when he's talking about WORD in you, not your act of faith; WORD IN YOU doing the work, not your own works

5/22 James 2 says WORD WORKS, never you!

Continued from James 1:23 through 2:1, still on B): how James cleverly inserts or removes "the" to distinguish between God's Word Works versus your faith or works. But also, introduction to his rhetorical style C, testing for crowning wealth from Word (begun in 1:3-12), versus physical wealth (1:9-10 threaded into Chapter 2).

6/22 James 2 says WORD WORKS, never you!

Rhetorical style C), continued from James 2:1, goes through 2:14, James begging the question of "true riches" -- so you know the proper context for verses 14-26, which is on whether the WORD profits more when believed -- due to maturation, example of Abraham. ('Exact opposite of common Christian claims about the passage.)

7/22 James 2 says WORD WORKS, never you!

Exegesis continued from James 2:14. More on his B) and C) rhetorical styles, showing how B) insertion or removal of article in 2:14, accomplishes style C), begging the question of "true riches".

8/22 James 2 says WORD WORKS, never you!

Exegesis continued in James 2:14-16. More on his C) rhetorical style of Invested Word, begging the question of "true riches" -- analogy to how Word merely MOUTHED but not believed, is as profitless as merely wishing a poor person well.

9/22 James 2 says WORD WORKS, never you!

Exegesis continued from James 2:16-2:20. More on his C) rhetorical style, begging the question of "true riches", and the LACK of productive value in human works. So the Word is IDLE, not working (KJV mistranslated 'dead' in 2:20) -- so the passage is about the Word just sitting there unbelieved and hence unemployed, NOT about salvation.

10/22 James 2 says WORD WORKS, never you!

Exegesis still focuses on James 2:18-2:20, his C) rhetorical style, begging the question of "true riches", and the LACK of productive value in human works. So the Word is IDLE, not working (KJV mistranslated 'dead' in 2:20) -- so the passage is about the Word just sitting there unbelieved and hence unemployed, NOT about salvation.

11/22 James 2 says WORD WORKS, never you!

Videos #11-12 cover the 'pink' proof that James is only talking about post-salvation maturation, to prove the 'faith without works' chirpers cannot read James. Videos #12-16's 'green' mapping show the 'true riches' metaphor James tracks, likening spiritual maturation to superior wealth (theme of his letter). Videos 16-22 climactically conclude by tracing James' clever and dramatic use or removal of 'the' to prove God's works in Abraham and the saved person who likewise BELIEVES the Word, versus the saved but carnal worker. Very Shocking.

Jim19 James' Meter ties to Luke 1:78-79, cont.

Continued from Jim18, see Jim7 for vid description. Still on Luke's use of '40', tying the 160th Chanukah anniversary birth of Christ to context of Leviticus 12, Zecharias' prophecy which goes 40 years past the Mill. Focus still on Luke 2, this video, showing how Luke's using Zecharias' 84 and 91 meters to choose what he says next, re Simeon and Anna. Which means, he expects his audience to have memorized that meter and make the associations (else his outline wouldn't resonate with them)! Really clever, really bald, really shocking proof of Luke's Gospel import and outline, which scholars have puzzled over .. for centuries!

And James' meter, reflects all that, especially the yet-future demise of Israel due to Bar Kochba. Which was the flipside of history, when Christ was rejected.

Why this wry number play? 'Issue was, would the original '50' pre-Church play, or is it the '40' for the takedown of the Temple by the MILITARY of the invading 'prince'? Especially, since there's now an extra '7' Hanging Chad of Time, since the Last David was killed at age 33, though slated to be 40? So the 69th week now has to play, too. Same '14' problem, just as predicted since Psalm 90's meter...

Preview of coming contractions: NEW: brainout.net/Luke1DatelineMeters.pdf . The videos on this won't begin until Episode 24, and the pdf will be VERY much changed versus what you see now. For I just learned Luke's meter is in TWO parts: the pdf here, is REVISED meter for his real at-the-time-written dateline, is in verses 1:5-7; this one, references Matthew's meter.

Meaning is still intact, compared to James. Still, I must delay videos on Luke's Meter until fleshing out the relationship, further.

Jim20 James' Meter ties to Luke 1:78-79, cont.

Continued from Jim19, see Jim7 for vid description. Now we see how the REST of Luke's Gospel tracks to the benchmarks in the Magnificat post-Birth. In this video, focus is on Mary's benchmarking the Lord's age 12 -- when both Joseph and she would leave Him behind. So that's the next item in the order of Luke's Gospel! In other words, he's tracking her benchmarks to derive what he says as well as the order of what he says. Wow. Big help to hermeneutics, huh.

By the way, at 8:40 or so I say that the 15th year of Tiberius was 29 AD. In 'our' BC/AD system, which Bible writers didn't use, it's 27 AD. This Tiberius issue is explained in brainout.net/JohnDatelineMeter.htm#C . By their own AD accounting (which Luke uses, hence the four-syllable difference stressed in the video here at 175), it would be 29AD for ministry start, and 33 AD for death, since they use HIS AGE as their 'AD'. For us, the 'year' of Him being 29 or 33, is four years earlier, because of our BC/AD changes made by Dionysius Exiguus.

Jim23 James' Meter ties to Luke 1:78-79, cont.

Continued from Jim22. Now we come back to why James uses Luke 1:78-79, to craft his own dateline meter. It makes sense to thus argue that James did it that way, to ENDORSE Luke and Paul, given that Paul had just been imprisoned, per James' own dateline. If true as posited, this information would be vital to a) proper dating of the NT books, and b) proper interpretation of James. Again, I'm trying to show something of the value of these dateline meters, to hermeneutics.

Here, the video shows how Luke's own Gospel outline continues all the way to its end, themed upon Zecharias' speech and meter, which was based on Mary's meter; and especially on Luke 1:78-79, which forms the theme for the ending of Luke's Gospel, which 1:78-79, James uses as his meter. Awesome stuff.

The Tiberius issue is explained in brainout.net/JohnDatelineMeter.htm#C . By their own AD accounting (which Luke uses, hence the four-syllable difference in Mary's meter, starting at syllable 175), it would be 29AD for ministry start, and 33 AD for death, since they use HIS AGE as their 'AD'. For us, the 'year' of Him being 29 or 33, is four years earlier, because of our BC/AD changes made by Dionysius Exiguus.

Which means, Luke expects his audience to have memorized that meter and make the associations (else his outline wouldn't resonate with them)! Really clever, really bald, really shocking proof of Luke's Gospel import and outline, which scholars have puzzled over .. for centuries!

James' meter, reflects all that, especially the yet-future demise of Israel due to Bar Kochba.

For Luke's meter is in TWO parts: his at-the-time-written dateline, is in verses 1:5-7; but he sent a COPY to Theophilus 7 years later, and that 'cover letter' (verses 1-4) has its own meter.

Meaning is still intact, compared to James.

Jim24 Luke1's dateline meter

Now we get into Luke's meter, proper. This video presents the overview on WHY Luke wrote when he did, and introduces the PREAMBLE meter. Later videos will have different conclusions.
